ކޮލެރާއަކީ ބޯފެނާއި ކާތަކެތީގެ ޒަރީޢާއިން، “ވިބްރޯ ކޮލެރާ” ނަމަކަށް ކިޔާ ޖަރާސީމެއް ހަށިގަނޑުގެ ތެރެއަށް ދިޔުމުން ޖެހޭ ބައްޔެކެވެ. މި ބަލި ޖެހުމުން ގިނަގިނައިން ބޭރަން ހިންގައި ހޮޑުލެވެއެވެ. މީގެ އިތުރުން ލޭގެ ޕްރެޝަރު ދަށްވެ އަކުނިވަޔަށް ދަމާގޮތްވެއެވެ. ގައިގެ ހަންގަނޑު ދޫވެ، ހިތުގެ ވިންދު އަވަސްވެ، ހިތް ނުތަނަވަސްވާން ފަށައެެވެ. ގިނައިން ބޭރަށް ހިންގަން ފެށުމުގެ ނަތީޖާއެއްގެ ގޮތުން ހަށިގަނޑުން ފެންމަދުވެ ފުރާނައަށް ނުރައްކާވެއެވެ.
މި ނުރައްކާތެރި ބައްޔާ ދިވެހީންވަނީ 1978 ވަނައަހަރު ހަނގުރާމަކޮށްފައެވެ. މާލެއާއި ރާއްޖޭގެ އެކި ކަންކޮޅުތަކަށް އެ ދުވަސްވަރު މި ބަލި ފެތުރިގެން ދިޔައީ ވަރަށް ހަލުއިކަމާއެކުގައެވެ. މީގެ ކުރީން އެފަދަ ބައްޔެއް ފެތުރިގެން ނުދާހައި ހަލުއިކަމާއެކުގައެވެ. ނަތީޖާއެއްގެ ގޮތުން އެތައް ދިވެހީންނެއް ވަނީ ދުނިޔެ ދޫކޮށްފައެވެ.
މި ބަލި އެ ދުވަސްވަރު ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ އެކި ކަންކޮޅުތަކަށް ފެތުރެންފެށިލެއް ހަލުއިކަމާއި، މީހުން މަރުވާން ފެށިލެއް ގިނަކަމުން، ސަރުކާރުން މިކަމަށް ވަރަށް ބޮޑު ސަމާލުކަމެއް ދިނެވެ. އެގޮތުން މަސައްކަތް ފެށީ ސީދާ ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާގެ ބެއްލެވުމުގެ ދަށުންނެވެ. އެކަމާބެހޭ ކަންކަން ގަލޮޅު ބޯޅަދަނޑުގައި ހިންގަވަން ފެއްޓެވިއެވެ. މާލެއާއި ރާއްޖޭގެ އެކި ކަންކޮޅުތަކުގައި “މެޑިކަލް ޓީމުތައް” ހަރަކާތްތެރިވާން ފެށިއެވެ. ކޮންމެ ރަށަކުން ވެސް، ބަލި ޖެހިފައި ތިބި އެންމެން އެއްތަނެއްގައި ބައިތިއްބައިގެންނެވެ.
ފަރުވާ ކުރަން ފެށިއިރު ވެސް، ބައެއް ރަށްރަށުން މީހުން މަރުވާން ފަށައިފިއެވެ. އަދި ފަރުވާ ދެމުން ދަނިކޮށް ވެސް، އެތައް ސަތޭކަ ބަޔަކު މަރުވެދިޔައެވެ. އެއް އާއިލާއަކުން ވެސް އެތައް ބަޔަކު ދުނިޔެ ދޫކުރިއެވެ. މައިން ހުވަފަތްވެ، ދަރީން ޔަތީމުވަމުން ދިޔައީ މަދެއްކޮށެއް ނޫނެވެ. އެހެންކަމުން މި ބިރުވެރި ރޯގާ ސިފަކުރެވެނީ އެ ދުވަސްވަރު ރާއްޖެއަށް ކުރިމަތިވި ބޮޑު ކާރިސާއެއްގެ ގޮތުގައެވެ.
